Post-ANIMA progress in Slovenia

✈️ Real change, real impact – post-ANIMA progress in Slovenia!

We are very happy to see concrete improvements emerging after the conclusion of the ANIMA Project, showing that our collaborative efforts continue to make a difference.

The City of Kranj, together with six neighbouring municipalities and the Dialog Forum Group on the Environmental Impacts of Airports, has reached a key agreement with national authorities and Fraport Slovenija (operator of Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport) to address the issue of low-flying aircrafts.

As a direct result:
✅ One of the GIMIX flight procedures has been abolished.
✅ The remaining GIMIX 1Z procedure have now been time-restricted:
• Weekdays: 8:00 – 18:00
• Saturdays: 8:00 – 13:00
• Sundays & public holidays: no flights allowed

These changes follow a series of persistent efforts – starting with the 2019 joint request for noise reduction from local mayors and reinforced by the Municipality of Kranj’s active role in the ANIMA Project.

We’re particularly proud that the Dialog Forum Group, which emerged from ANIMA’s community engagement activities, was officially established in 2023. It now includes representatives from local and national institutions, civil aviation authorities, public health experts, and citizens.

This is a great example of what cross-sector collaboration and community involvement can achieve.
